Indiana Historic District

The College Hill Historic District was originally called the Indiana Historic District and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The district contains 101 single family residences of which 80 were built between 1880 and 1939 and is the largest collection of historic architecture in the city.

This section of Maryville was rural farmland until after the Civil War and it was not until the 1880’s that development occurred in the area. The earliest homes were built along Indiana Avenue which was named in honor of several residents from Indiana. By 1909 there were approximately thirty residences built along Stanley, Miller, Clark, and Indiana. The majority of homes are Colonial Revival, Italiante-influenced, Romanesque, T-plan, Craftsman, Bungalow, Arts and Craftsman, Cape Cod, and Queen Anne.
